What is SAEOS?

Anthony Glackmeyer About

SAEOS stands for Simple And Ephemeral Operating System. SAEOS was developed in the early 2000's as a core pillar of what is now known as zero trust. It began as a fork of Linux running XFCE targeted at shared computing and kiosk environments. The original images ran on burned read-only SD cards.

Through the years, you have probably used a rebranded SAEOS image on a business center computer in a hotel, apartment complex, business lobby or applying for a job at a kiosk. We even provided some companies with custom versions that served as digital signage.

From the beginning, SAEOS was all about repeatable security - establishing a source of truth before zero-trust was zero-trust! The distro's focus was to run a very small and secure operating system on removable storage that would ensure users were given a clean and stable environment on every boot.
